HPV VACCINE FOR WOMEN AND TEENS FOR THE PREVENTION OF CERVICAL CANCER

There are more than 100 different kinds of Human Papillomavirus (HPV). While some types can cause genital warts, others will show no symptoms but will eventually lead to cancers of the cervix, vulva, vagina and anus.

While there is no cure for HPV, the FDA has recommended approval of the vaccine Gardisil to fight HPV to help prevent cervical cancer.

The HPV vaccine can be administered in Dr. Leibman’s office. It was originally approved for females between the ages of 9 to 26, and has now been FDA approved up to the age of 45. This is because studies show the vaccine prevents about 70 percent of cervical cancers if it is given to women before they have sex for the first time.

If you are interested int he HPV vaccine, Dr. Maurice Leibman can administer it in his Houston clinic. The HPV vaccine is given in three doses over a six-month period. Women who are pregnant should not get the HPV vaccine until after the baby is born.

For more information on the HPV vaccine, speak to Dr. Leibman or visit the CDC Web site
