Hot Flashes: What causes them in menopause?

So you’re having hot flashes. The good news is this is the most common menopause-related symptom. The bad news is we still do not know exactly what causes it. What we do know is that blood vessels near the surface of skin dilate so blood flows there and gives off body heat. This produces a red flush in the face and neck in most women.

It may also cause sweating to further cool the body down and then a chill follows. If you don’t feel the hot flash, you are not alone. Some women only feel the chills.
